38th Annual Desert Classic is a Hole in One

Successful golf outing supports seminarians' pilgrimage to Holy Land

by Editorial Team

On September 21st, 100 golfers gathered at The Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth for the 38th Annual Desert Golf Classic. The annual golf outing helps fund Sacred Heart Major Seminary’s Desert Formation Experience.

The Desert Formation Experience is a thirty-day spiritual pilgrimage in the Holy Land in which seminarians walk and pray in the very places Jesus prayed, taught, and worked miracles. The retreat is unique to Sacred Heart and integral to the seminarians’ priestly formation.

"It is by way of your generosity that we seminarians, through the Desert Formation Experience, are invited into a unique encounter with the Lord Jesus in our formation as His priests,” said Desert Classic Seminarian Chairs Dcn. Kevin Wojciechowski, Diocese of Saginaw, and Christian Flagstadt, Diocese of Marquette. “Many of our brother seminarians and future priests continue to be transformed and experience deeper conversion of heart through the memories of this unique encounter with Jesus.”

The 18-hole scramble tournament began with a shotgun start at 11:00, and concluded with foursome of Dr. Thomas Butts, Erich Mau, Mike Kerby, and Michael Shearon prevailing as 1st Place Winners. Closest to the Pin and the coveted Dearden Cup were won by Gary Vigneron, and John Vigneron emerged victorious in the Straightest Drive Contest.

Sacred Heart Major Seminary is incredibly thankful for the golfers’ participation, as well as for the generosity of our sponsors:
