Cheerful Christmas concert-goers fill auditorium December 5.

There were many manies to Sacred Heart's 2014 Christmas concert, fittingly entitled The Many Moods of Christmas. The annual event was held at the seminary on Friday evening, December 5.

First of all, there were the many musical composition—twenty-three in allthat spanned the Medieval to the modern age and even included a hymn to Mary sung in Aramaic. There were many, many singers and instrumentalist—fifty-six in allwho contributed their talents to the seasonal extravaganza.

Five musical groupings performed under the expert conducting of Dr. Ronald Prowse, Sacred Heart's director of liturgical music: the Sacred Heart Choir, composed of seminarian vocalists; the Sacred Heart Concert Chorale, made up of friends of the seminary; the musicians of the Ann Arbor-based Michigan Sinfonietta who accompanied the singers; the St. Paul Fellowship Ensemble, a plugged-in praise-and-worship quartet of golden-voiced seminarians; and an Irish folk group, lead by Sacred Heart director of libraries Christopher Spilker, that performed an medley of Irish Christmas music.

There was even a rousing sing-along that concluded the concert, with Dr. Prowse inviting any of alums of previous Christmas choirs to join the performers on stageand about fifteen came forth with voices blazing. A highpoint of the production was selections from the world-wide holiday favorite, The Many Moods of Christmas, arranged by Robert Shaw and Robert Russell Bennett.

What there were not many of were empty seat—in fact, there were no empty seats. The entire 550-seat vintage auditorium filled up with guests who came to enjoy the seasonal music and good vibrations of the evening.

Sacred Heart's Christmas concert it is held on the Friday of the first week in December, as it has been for the past fifty years. If you missed the event, consider marking your 2015 holiday calendar right now. And don't forget to invite your family and friends to join you. All freewill donations go toward the chapel organ restoration fund.

Are you a current or former student? Consider coming early to attend the second annual pre-concert reception just for alums. The first one was held this year to a good response.
