Explore the Supernatural Power of Faith this Advent

A Free Online Course with Father Pieter van Rooyen

by Editorial Team

This Advent, explore the meaning and power of faith in Sacred Heart Major Seminary’s newest online course, “Touching God through the Supernatural Power of Faith.” Father Pieter van Rooyen, Director of Graduate Seminarians and Assistant Professor of Theology, will teach this free online course offered through EQUIP, The Institute for Lay Ministry’s online formation platform.

Far from mundane “wishful thinking,” which many misunderstand, Father van Rooyen will explore how Christian faith is a supernatural gift from God through which we surrender our lives to him and share in his divine life. As Hebrews 11:1 describes, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for.”

This course is an opportunity to better understand the meaning and power of Christian faith according to the Scriptures and the teachings of Thomas Aquinas and other saints and doctors of the Church, especially Therese of Lisieux and Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Course participants can expect that examining the faith through the lens of these writings will help deepen their personal relationship with Jesus.

This self-paced course takes place over four weeks, from Sunday, November 17 to Saturday, December 14, 2024, and is composed of four modules:

Module 1: The Necessity, Nature, and Power of Christian Faith

Module 2: Growth in Faith

Module 3: The Demands of Faith

Module 4: Darkness and Faith

This is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen your faith this Advent season. Learn more and register for the course at shms.edu/advent.
