Exploring the Fundamentals

by Msgr. Todd Lajiness

This fall, bishops from around the world together with lay professionals and experts gathered in Rome for a Synod to address the Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of the New Evangelization. The Holy Father himself has spoken repeatedly about the importance of the family in contemporary society as that unique school in which individuals are loved and formed, and from which individuals go forth to give genuine witness to Jesus. In the working document for the Synod, a preparatory document, it is noted, Since the family is the natural place for personal development, it is the foundation of society and the State. And then the document goes on to state, From the very first years of a person's existence, the family is the place for the transmission and learning of values, such as brotherhood, loyalty, love for the truth and human, the love from which we were created, and how we relate with each other. As a member of the Sacred Heart community, be assured of our continued prayers and gratitude for your generosity. Your contributions make possible the work of formation that we do, preparing our seminarians, permanent deacons, and lay leaders to be heroic witnesses with missionary hearts in the world today. Sincerely yours in Christ, Rev. Msgr. Todd J. Lajiness Rector/President
