An integral part of the mystery of the Incarnation is the Holy Family. From the earliest days of Christianity, the Fathers of the Church have commented on the rich beauty that emerges from the relationships between Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. These relationships, lived in a specific historical context, also reveal the identity of the eternal Word of God. And so the Holy Family is a model of the domestic church, and there is so much that we can learn from them.
This issue of Mosaic seeks to explore the gift of the family as a leaven in society. The topic is very much at the heart of many conversations around the world: politically, legally, and culturally. As the nature of marriage and family life are challenged (and disfigured), renewed focus on the gift of the Holy Family and the place of the family in the world today is critical. The October synod in the Vatican took up these issues as well, seeking ways to offer encouragement to families and to call them to be a missionary presence in the world today.
As we begin the Year of Mercy in December and make our way through the coming months, be assured of the prayers of the community at Sacred Heart Major Seminary for you and your family. Your generous support of our mission does not go unnoticed, and I ask the Lord to bless you abundantly.
Sincerely in Christ,
