Inspiration for Vocational Journey

Seminarians thank priests who encouraged them to pursue God’s calling.

by Perrin Atisha

If you ask any seminarian to share his vocation story, very likely you will hear about a priest who inspired him to consider the priesthood and even helped him enter seminary. Sacred Heart seminarians host these priests once a year to thank them for the many ways they have influenced our vocations. The twenty-first annual Priest/Seminarian Dinner was held on Sunday, November 7. The night included Evening Prayer in the main chapel and a dinner with all of our honored guests.

Among the priests included were: spiritual directors, retreat masters, parish internship supervisors, vocation directors, and pastors—all who have encouraged a vocation to the priesthood. It was a night filled with great joy and fraternity. Msgr. Todd Lajiness, rector and president of Sacred Heart, addressed the priests and reminded them of their influence emphasizing that formation is a teamwork effort. He recognized that there is a great deal of formation that happens outside of the walls of the seminary thanks to the many priests who were present with us.

I thank all of the priests who have influenced and encouraged my brother seminarians and I to seek the Lord through his call of the priesthood, and we pray that the Lord sends more laborers into his vineyard.
