Lay men and women pursuing a degree at Sacred Heart receive more than just academic training. For example, spiritual formation is part of all pastoral ministry degree programs.
Building on this tradition on ongoing formation, the seminary has just launched an exciting new speaker series. “In the Heart of the Church” is designed to enrich the spirituality, strengthen the faith, and jumpstart the enthusiasm of lay ecclesial ministers in the Archdiocese of Detroit and neighboring dioceses.
“In the Heart of the Church” will feature presentations from well-known Catholic leaders who are experts in their fields. The first talk is on Thursday, November 5, from 12:00–3:00 PM. ValLimar Jansen is a dynamic conference speaker and workshop facilitator who has been moving audiences across the country for years. Tapping into her experience as a recording artist, professional actor, and cantor, ValLimar combines music and song with a lively Christian message of faith in God and love of neighbor.
On Thursday, April 7, 12:00–3:00 PM, Deacon Ralph Poyo delivers a message that will surely move the crowd. Deacon Poyo is the founder of New Evangelization Ministries, whose mission is “Training Saints to Lead Hearts to Christ.” He travels to scores of parishes and dioceses per year giving seminars, speaking at conferences, and leading parish retreats with a special emphasis on helping parishes to become radical centers of re-evangelization.
All “In the Heart of the Church” presentations will be held at Sacred Heart Major Seminary. Anyone involved in lay ministry is welcome, not just graduates of the seminary or current students. Even more, the speaker series—including lunch—is free of charge.
Register online for both presentations at shms.edu/ministry. But hurry. Space is limited so register as early as you are able. The series is co-sponsored by the Archdiocese of Detroit and the Catholic Services Appeal.
