Professor and Rector emeritus Osebold Enters into Eternal Life

The Sacred Heart community mourns the death and celebrates the life of former rector and professor Monsignor Richard Osebold.

On January 14th, 2021, former professor and rector of Sacred Heart Major Seminary Monsignor Richard Osebold entered into eternal life.

Ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 4th, 1960, Msgr. Osebold also served as Pastor of St. John Bosco and Parochial Vicar at St. Mary of Redford Parish before taking senior status in 2018.

“I recall his generous and gentle spirit, and one who continued his own intellectual formation his whole life,” said Msgr. Lajiness of Msgr. Osebold. “As a seminary community we pray for the repose of his soul, and thank God for his many contributions to the Sacred Heart over the years.” 

Visitation will take place at St. John XXIII Parish, 12100 Beech Daly, Redford Township, Michigan 48239 on Thursday, January 21 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Monsignor’s body will lie in state on Friday, January 22 at 10 a.m., until the time of his funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m, which will be livestreamed here.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
