Two Priest-Alumni to Join the Faculty

by MOSAIC Editorial Team

The seminary community will be welcoming two new resident priests on July 1. Archbishop Allen Vigneron announced in May that he is appointing Fr. Charles Fox to the faculty of the Graduate School of Theology. Father Fox has accepted the duties of director of graduate seminarians, a position previously held by Fr. Daniel Jones.

Further, Father Fox will undertake the responsibilities of director of liturgy. He assumes this position from Fr. Robert Spezia, whom the archbishop recently appointed vicar for clergy and director of the archdiocese's Office for Clergy and Consecrated Life.

I am very pleased to share this additional news, expressed Msgr. Todd Lajiness, Sacred Heart's rector, in a May 12 email to the seminary community. Through the generosity of Bishop Earl Boyea of the Diocese of Lansing, Fr. Pieter van Rooyen has been released for service to the faculty of Sacred Heart Major Seminary. Father Van Rooyen, a priest of the Lansing diocese, is an alumnus of the seminary (College 2006, Theology 2010), as is Father Fox (College 2002, Theology 2006, STL 2015). In addition to his teaching, Father Van Rooyen will serve as a formation advisor to the seminarians.

Both Fathers Van Rooyen and Fox soon will be completing their doctorates in sacred theology. Readers of the Mosaic may recall that Father Fox has already served on the seminary faculty, for the academic year of 2014-15. He coached the Lions basketball team that year to a winning record.

I remain grateful for the continuous support of Archbishop Vigneron and his care for the good of the seminary in making these appointments, Monsignor Lajiness says. We are blessed to welcome Father Van Rooyen and Father Fox to the resident priest faculty next year serving in these important roles.

They are both already known to us and deeply respected. Please join me in welcoming them!
