Dive into the Prophecies of Isaiah This Advent

A Free Online Course with Dr. Peter Williamson

by Editorial Team

This Advent, join our learning community at Sacred Heart and take the newest online course “Isaiah in the Light of Christ.” This free, non-credit course, taught by Dr. Peter Williamson, who holds the Adam Cardinal Maida Chair in Sacred Scripture at Sacred Heart, is the latest online learning experience offered on EQUIP, the Institute for Lay Ministry’s online formation platform.

In this course, you will explore the writings of the prophet Isaiah in the light of Christ. The Old Testament is full of prophecies foreshadowing the coming of Christ Jesus, which is arguably most evident in the prophet Isaiah, read by the Church during the high points of the liturgical year. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to read the Old Testament through the lens of the New Testament. Additionally, you can use this course as an Advent study to grow deeper in your personal relationship with Jesus.

This course takes place over four weeks, running from Sunday, November 19 through Saturday, December 16, 2023. The course modules are as follows:

  • Week 1: A Remarkable Prophecy in an Unlikely Context

  • Week 2: A Virgin Shall Conceive

  • Week 3: To Us a Child Is Born

  • Week 4: The Branch from Jesse’s Roots; the Beginning of a New World

“Isaiah in the Light of Christ” is a self-paced and accessible way to grow in your understanding and love of Sacred Scripture while preparing to celebrate Christmas.
