Deacon Zaid Chabaan’s vocation story begins with his grandfather, a devout Catholic who was the first person to take Zaid to church or teach him about Jesus.
“I began altar serving at my home parish after the death of my grandfather,” he says. “It was
serving at the altar where I began discerning a vocation, as well as getting to know the priests at my parish who had a big inspiration in my discernment.”
His place on the altar would serve as an integral part of his priestly formation, as well, as Dcn. Zaid has spent the last year in parish ministry at St. John the Baptist and St. Mary parishes in Monroe. “Nothing is more formative than hands-on experience in a parish setting,” he says of both this experience and his pastoral year at St. Frances Cabrini.
Dcn. Zaid is particularly excited for the opportunity to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as a priest and to administer the sacraments, particularly the Anointing of the Sick and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Dcn. Zaid will be ordained on May 22nd at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. Please join us in praying for him as he prepares for the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
