Meet Your Seminarians: Deacon Jack Pfeiffer

Diocese of Kalamazoo seminarian reflects on the fraternity he shared with his brother seminarians while studying at Sacred Heart

Meet Dcn. Jack Pfeiffer, a transitional deacon for the Diocese of Kalamazoo (Home parish: St. Margaret Church in Otsego), who will be ordained a priest later this year.

What was the highlight of your time at Sacred Heart Major Seminary?

In my six years at Sacred Heart, the highlight was definitely the fraternity shared between all of us brother seminarians. Nothing beats living in a community of men who are all single-minded in our pursuit of holiness. One example of this fraternity lived out was the trip my classmates and I took together last January, going to the March for Life in Washington, D.C.

What has been one or two highlights of your time serving as a transitional deacon?

The highlight of my time as a transitional deacon has been the 29 children that I have been blessed to baptize. After such a long time preparing for spiritual fatherhood, it has been incredibly rewarding to know that I have now been an instrument for Christ imparting spiritual life on these newly baptized Christians.

How are you preparing for your priestly ordination?

In addition to the retreat I will be making in early May, I am praying every day for the grace to be conformed to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so that I can love those entrusted to my care with his own love.

What kind of priest do you want to be?

I want to be a priest who leads everyone I meet to trust in the unfathomable mercy of God, especially through the sacrament of Reconciliation. I hope to inspire conversion of heart in every homily and to lead my people to an encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist.

What are you looking forward to after being ordained?

I look forward with great anticipation (and a little bit of nervousness) to celebrating my Mass of Thanksgiving at my home parish.

Please join us in praying for Deacon Jack Pfeiffer during his final months of preparation leading up to his ordination.
