Feast of St. Andrew, Apostle
“Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus. He first found his own brother Simon and told him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (which is translated Anointed). Then he brought him to Jesus.”
—John 1:40-42
Dear Friend of Sacred Heart Major Seminary,
I pray this letter finds you and your families doing very well as we approach the end of the year. The mission of Sacred Heart Major Seminary, as you know, is to prepare new “Andrews” to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with their family members, friends, co-workers, and everyone with whom they come into contact. Just as Andrew led his brother Simon to Jesus, proclaiming Him to be the Messiah, so our students proclaim Jesus as Lord and share Him far and wide.
The work of preparing heralds of Christ’s saving Gospel requires resources. We strive to give our students the very best formation possible so that they will, in turn, be the best evangelizers they can possibly be.
Thanks to wonderful disciples of Jesus Christ and friends of Sacred Heart like you, The Fishermen’s Fund has distributed approximately two million dollars to over 500 seminarians, men in formation for the permanent diaconate, and lay students preparing to serve in parishes, schools, and other ministries. Not only does your support help Sacred Heart Major Seminary and many of our individual students, but you also help countless men, women, and children whom our students serve. When you support our students, you also ensure that the sacraments will be celebrated, the Gospel preached, our holy Faith taught, the poor and suffering served, and the Church vitalized for decades to come.
There is more critical work for us to do together! There are countless people bewildered by the chaos of the world, and our students long to bring them the light that shines in the darkness, which the darkness will never overcome (see John 1:5). The light of Jesus Christ is exactly what so many people need to overcome both inner and outer darkness.
Please do everything you can to make sure that the light of Christ shines brightly in our churches! I invite you to support The Fishermen’s Fund with your prayers and your financial resources, so that men and women who want to bring Christ to a needy world can do so with the holiness, wisdom, and skill needed “to seek and to save those who are lost” (Luke 19:10).
Once again, thank you very much for all you do to support Sacred Heart Major Seminary and our mission. May St. Andrew, the great apostle and patron of The Fishermen’s Fund, intercede for you and your families.
Sincerely Yours In Christ,
Rev. Charles D. Fox
Vice-Rector
