This week, Sacred Heart Major Seminary held its annual Giving Heart Day, an invitation to the community to support the mission of forming priests and lay leaders to be heralds of the New Evangelization according to the Heart of Jesus. Sacred Heart sends its thanks to all who generously participated this year. Through the support of the seminary community, Sacred Heart can faithfully press on with its mission.
Every prayer offered and every gift made furthers the education and formation of those men and women who will carry out the New Evangelization in their assignments, parishes, communities, and homes. Those who believe in and support this mission play an integral part in furthering the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and this mission would not be possible without such generosity.
As of the morning of December 9, donors have contributed to a total of $9,295.47 raised and this year, a matching gift is generously sponsored by Rod and Karen Mersino. Rod and Karen shared their enthusiasm for the giving event saying, “We love the priests that we see coming out of Sacred Heart Major Seminary. Because of the fine and dedicated staff, they are well-formed and filled with the Spirit of the Lord.”
It’s these Spirit-filled individuals that Sacred Heart works to equip and send out into the world, to be heralds of Christ’s divine light. This need to bring Christ’s light into the world’s darkness is the reason the Mersino’s are so compelled to support the mission: “Our culture is deteriorating, and we need their strength and orthodoxy to revitalize our culture and to rebuild our Church. That is why we support SHMS. We pray that the Blessed Mother wrap them in her Mantle and protect them from the Evil in this world.”
Giving Heart Day is not only a sign of the community’s generosity, but also an annual reminder of God’s blessings. Fr. Stephen Burr, Sacred Heart Rector, remarked that “The seminary community is blessed by the ample gifts of prayerful and spiritual support.” He went on to highlight that Giving Heart Day very appropriately takes place on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, “As a moment to pray for the seminary’s mission and consider a financial gift to support practical efforts of the mission. It is true that God's generosity cannot be outdone, but we can share in His blessings as cheerful givers."
If you have not yet donated to Sacred Heart, there is still time to be part of this effort. From now through the end of December you can make a Giving Heart Day gift to support the work of the seminary. Your continued prayers for our mission remain always appreciated.
On behalf of the entire Sacred Heart community, thank you! We trust God will use your generosity to empower more priests and lay leaders to spread the Gospel according to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Thank you for continuing to make this work possible. You are held in the prayers of all here at Sacred Heart.
