2023 Desert Golf Classic

Golfers raise funds for the seminarian pilgrimage to the Holy Land, at the forty-first annual Desert Golf Classic.

by Editorial Team

On Monday, September 25, 149 golfers hit the green at Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield for Sacred Heart Major Seminary’s forty-first annual Desert Golf Classic.

The crisp autumn day made for a wonderful day of golf for a worthwhile cause. The tournament makes possible the Desert Formation Experience, a thirty-day spiritual pilgrimage made every spring by first-year graduate seminarians, visiting the sacred sites of the Holy Land. This formation opportunity gives seminarians the opportunity to walk and pray in the very land where Jesus walked, taught, and worked his miracles.

Longtime tournament attendee, Brian Bastic of Diocesan Publications remarked, “Diocesan has been blessed to participate in and support the Desert Golf Classic for the past 7 years. The joy it brings visiting with the seminarians each year is invaluable. Having seen the ways Sacred Heart seminarians grow from year to year, Brian continued “To be able to see the men we met years back as Theology 1 students now being ordained to the Priesthood is special. I have great hope in the future of the Catholic Church after attending this event and getting the opportunity to converse with the seminarians. I continue to pray for all of our men in formation and hope they know the blessing they are to our team at Diocesan each year!”
