Over 3,000 Participate in Free Online Course

New Course Begins This Summer

by MOSAIC Editorial Team

This Lent Sacred Heart Major Seminary began a new initiative for Evangelization. The seminary offered The Beauty of Belief, a free open online course, which ran each week of Lent and taught participants more about the beauty of the Catholic faith. The format allowed students to incorporate this Lenten practice into their own schedules.

Over 3,200 active participants from 46 states and 38 countries participated in the free, non-credit course. Along with lecture videos by SHMS faculty members, each module included: introductory videos, supplemental reading material, guided lectio divina, online discussion forum, and personal assessment quiz.

Building upon the success of this first open-course, the seminary has recently announced its next course in this series, The Mission of the Laity. This free online course is perfect for the everyday Catholic seeking to encounter the radiating beauty of laity's mission. This course will introduce the incredible dignity and mission of the lay faithful. Through their consecration in Baptism and their anointing in Confirmation, the laity receive a high calling in Christ and the Spirit. Christ gives each of us a share in His mission and calls us into a radical life of missionary discipleship. There are three traditional roles assigned to this lay mission: the priestly, the prophetic, and the royal. Each week of the course will be dedicated to one of these and the ways we are called to live them out--both in the Church and in the world
