“I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you.” —Philippians 1:3
Dear Friend of Sacred Heart Major Seminary,
I studied journalism before entering Sacred Heart as an undergraduate seminarian in 2000, and one of the most important lessons I learned about newspaper writing is to lead with your most important point. I cannot think of a more important message to communicate to you than to offer my thanks and that of the whole seminary community for your love, prayers, and financial support.
Thanks to wonderful disciples of Jesus Christ and friends of Sacred Heart like you, The Fishermen’s Fund has distributed almost two million dollars to 493 seminarians, men in formation for the permanent diaconate, and students in our Institute for Lay Ministry.
At a time when our world seems swamped in bad news, the support of our friends is tremendously good news. And it is good news multiple times over! Not only does your support help Sacred Heart Major Seminary and so many of our individual students, but you also help countless men, women, and children whom our students serve. When you support our students, you also ensure that the sacraments will be celebrated, the Gospel preached, our holy Faith taught, the poor and suffering served, and the Church vitalized for decades to come.
There is more critical work for us to do together! There are countless people who are bewildered by the chaos of the world, and our students long to bring them the light that shines in the darkness, which the darkness will never overcome (see John 1:5). The light of Jesus Christ is exactly what so many people need to overcome both inner and outer darkness.
Please do everything you can to make sure the light of Christ shines brightly in our local churches! Support The Fishermen’s Fund with your prayers and your financial resources, so that men and women who want to bring Christ to a needy world can do so with the holiness, wisdom, and skill needed “to seek and to save those who are lost” (Luke 19:10).
Once again, thank you very much for all you do to support Sacred Heart Major Seminary and The Fishermen’s Fund! May St. Andrew, the great apostle and patron of The Fishermen’s Fund, intercede for you and your families.
Sincerely Yours In Christ,
Rev. Charles D. Fox
Vice-Rector Sacred Heart Major Seminary
